This gallery is composed of a small sampling of the historical images that I colorized for various uses in multiple history magazines by Weider History. All the effect work was done using Photoshop with multiple layers requiring various masking & coloring techniques.
JP Morgan: This image was being used on the cover of American History August 2010. I was given reference colors to use for coloring techniques. He also had a severe case of rosacea and the art director wanted that conveyed in the colorization.
General Custer: The art director wanted a colorized version of the general for use on the Winter 2013 cover with a very strong red color over the background texture. Again I was given accurate color swatches of the uniform and paintings of him to use as reference. This issue of the magazine was nominated for for an ASME National Magazine Award.
Satchel & Dizzy: Appearing in American History June 2010 this classic photo wanted some color punch added to it by the art director. She wanted a vintage color appeal to the photograph. I was supplied with color reference to the uniforms of the time. Most of the field and background was not colored due to the fact that the final layout had a color gradient used to block out the copy for the story.
Air Calvary: This scene was chosen for the Vietnam December 2012 cover. Again the art director wished to color the image to add some impact. Multiple color references were supplied for uniforms and the helicopters. This was a very intense image to color as it had lots of components. It required many masking and coloring techniques to help keep the depth of field with the copters in the sky.
Layouts: Shown are all the images used in their final layouts. The designs were done by the respective magazine's art directors. I only supplied the colorized images. All magazines were published by the Weider History Group.
